OAKLAND, Calif. June 18, 2007 - Blue Shield of California has contracted with Emeryville-based MedeFinance (Mede) to strengthen and streamline its provider communications and processes.  Continuing its efforts to make it easier for hospitals and physicians to do business with Blue Shield, the not-for-profit health plan is collaborating with Mede to obtain data on hospital operations, network management and claims processes.

“Mede’s intuitive web-based analytics will provide us with a more complete view of our performance and allow us to proactively communicate key performance indicators and trend analysis, identify service breakdowns early on, and assist in resolving systemic issues,” stated Duncan Ross, vice president of network strategy and operations for Blue Shield of California.  “Working with Mede on a comprehensive analytics solution reflects Blue Shield’s commitment to improving provider and member satisfaction.” 

Using Mede’s collection of key data metrics, Blue Shield will gain a better understanding of important hospital issues such as medical costs and cycle times, and will be able to identify, address and resolve hospital provider issues without delay.
